Artist Statement: The Silent Exchange series

My work is based on human interaction, relationships, communication and emotional attachment. Through the exploration of the painted figure, I am seeking to decipher layers of intimacy and connection through a personal lens.

The hands that are accumulating on the figures are a metaphor for human connection, contact and communication. The layers of hands are meant to portray the affect that people have on each other. The hands become a tool of understanding, reading a person like Braille. The works with hand prints on the bodies represent the emotional trace that is left on the individual.

By emphasizing physical touch and placing Braille text on the works I am expressing inexpressible feelings, fears, doubts and desires. My works addresses the destructive and powerful nature of words, and the physical manifestation of emotional attachment to another person. I want my works to silently speak, to express the intangible and inexpressible emotions that only silence can inhabit.
